Our Approach
Peer-to-Peer Mentorship: At RMPSB, we believe that the power of mentorship lies in the connection between peers. High school students who have already navigated the challenges of middle school are in a prime position to offer guidance, understanding, and encouragement. By pairing high school mentors with middle school mentees, we create a nurturing environment where younger students can learn from the experiences of the older generation.
Working with the Parents: Everything we do starts with the legal guardians of the kids we work with. Considering we have no set curriculum or series of steps, we plan a student-by-student program with the parents and work with them all the way through. This involves when we meet, how often we meet, what we are doing, and, most importantly, why we are doing it. It is always about what each individual younger student needs and. that can flourish in many ways. (Tutoring, Sports, or just someone to talk to).
Comprehensive Training: We understand that being an effective mentor requires a unique set of skills. Therefore, we prioritize comprehensive training for our high school mentors to ensure they possess the necessary tools to support younger people. Our training program covers active listening, effective communication, problem-solving, and fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
Individualized Matching: We recognize the importance of a strong mentor-student relationship. Through careful evaluation and assessment, we strive to match high school mentors with middle school mentees based on shared interests, personalities, and areas of support needed.
Ongoing Support and Guidance: The mentorship journey does not end with the initial pairing. We provide ongoing support and guidance to both mentors and mentees to encourage a thriving community. Regular check-ins and activities create a space for shared experiences and help the pair learn from one another.
Community Engagement and Collaboration: RMPSB believes in the strength of community collaboration. We actively engage with parents, teachers, and professionals to offer a supportive network that encourages the growth and development of our mentees and everyone they are working with. By involving the broader community, we can collectively contribute to the success and well-being of our students and everybody around us.
